Silhouettes

Steam baths of gay saunas are the realm of silhouettes par excellence: of bodies with blurred shapes.

When we are in there, we feel an indistinct presence, both alone and observed, naked and invisible. We imagine the other without really seeing them.

Hammam’s silhouettes are the opposite of profile pictures and other avatars we upload on dating apps. They leave our identities behind and immerse us in the myst and warmth of a confined space.

Silhouettes are blurry thus the more humane. They don’t interpose themselves between us (how many times do we fuck with a photo more than a person?) but allow us to share a sensual experience.

The hammam is a space of collective experience. Droplets of water stream our skins. Human connection takes on an entirely different dimension here.
